I came across this very interesting story about a reporter who switched from his Mac laptop to a Windows Vista laptop. It's quite an interesting read, though a bit long. Much of what Vista does is already encompassed in many other features throughout the Mac, but what's the real story?
When I talked to my partner last night about getting a new hard drive to replace our old one that got fried with the power outage a couple of weeks ago, she replied with, "oh, yeah, then we can get Vista". I turned and laughed, explaining to her about a recent report I saw on the local news that said you shouldn't bother getting Vista unless you're getting a new computer because many programs aren't set up to support Vista just yet. Which, if you think about it, that makes sense. I mean why would you bother using an operating system where many programs don't work?
And, I guess if my partner went out and got Vista, would she know this fact? That's what I think bothers me about the new system. I mean, anyone can go buy it for $100 and try to install it....are the sellers going to tell them that many programs aren't yet compatible?
Fortunately, my partner has a computer geek for a girlfriend, but what about those people out there that don't have any geeky computer people around them?
