Python and Google

I remember asking Bud about the Python book he was carrying around after class. Appearently the guy who created Python Guido van Rossum works for Google. I don't know if he is a full time employee or a consultant. Anyway Python is used by google extensively.

Python does away with a lot of the endless bookkeeping that you find in C++ and Java—saying 10 times over that your variable is a list of integers, things like that. Built into the language are more data types with more operations, giving you a more expressive and concise notation for dealing with those things.

Here is an article in which van Rossum is interviewed.

JSON reasons

This site mentions some very interesting reasons for using json.
Reasons for JSON

* JSON is easy. No really. It’s so easy, it’ll make you sick.
* If you’re familiar with writing classes in PHP, then you’ll most definitely be comfortable with writing JavaScript in Object Notation
* JSON is nothing more than name : value pairs assigned within an object.
* JSON is easy to understand because if written well, it’s a self-documenting structure.
* JSON is fast!
* JSON organizes the ugly mess of procedural programming. Imagine having more than one init function.
* You can impress your friends with JSON because it’s pretty looking
* Your co-workers will love you for writing in JSON because it will most likely not conflict with their scripts that are being called within the same web documents.

In additon some sample code is given. This may come in handy as a reference.

My Favorite Places - Final Iteration

I know that we are not supposed to review our own site but I'm going to comment on it anyway. I just want to say that I really enjoyed working with my groupmates Juweria and Jeff. It was Juweria that came up with the original idea for favorite but hard to find places. Jeff did a lot of the coding for the site. One of the features I'm glade we added was the comments feature which allows users to add comments that others will be able to see. If your favorite place is a particular restaurant others will have the opportunity to see your reasons. Anyway I think we all did a good job.

ISA site - Final Iteration

This site is very much a complete website because of all the features the group has added. Besides google maps, the weather channel, and feeds from yspsillani news there are also other useful features. One of the features I like the most are the various restaurant locations for chinese, indian, and italian foods. Good job!!

Ajac - Final Iteration

Virtual India is a very good name for this site. It is very easy to use. The site brings in informaiton from many different sources. You can select various cities in india and get the weather, pictures, and news feeds all made accessable on google maps. This is a good site and can be a great easy to use resource. Great job!!!

McCubed - Final Iteration

This site has come a long way and I think it is a great mashup between google maps and indeed. This might be useful for graduates looking for jobs or anyone. The site is also very well organized and easy to use. You should also use programmable web to advertise your work Great job guys.

HacknMash - Final Iteration

HacknMash is a site that seem to represent a good cause. This is my primary reason for liking the site. It seems to be a "real site" that is used by parents without partner. I agree with Mike I definitely like the calander feature. The only thing I would recommend is a little facelift with css style sheets and a change in color. Nonetheless this is a good site, http://people.emich.edu/rschwartz/696/pwp/iteration2/pwp.html Good luck.

Team Extreme - Final Iteration

Team Extreme has really cleaned up a lot since the last iteration. You can tell group listened very closely to reviews. I like the way everything is clearly explained for the user; therefore no guess work. The group discussion feature is very good and I also like the fact that the site was sent to programmable web so that others can see a great example of a mashup. Good job!!

Where is my Caffine Reviewed - Final Iteration

Where is my caffine is a very useful site. As a matter of fact I was looking for it I think the final iteraton is very good. I like the way the group organized the site. I would definitely go around to all the local busineses you are highlighing and tell them for a few extra buck they can get a full menu of their coffee blend and perhaps you can even add a link to their website if they have one.

Map Your Buddies Reviewed - Final Iteration

I took a very good look at the map your buddies web site. I was impressed first with the way the site was organized. The user has three options. You can right to into the site, to a demo page, or register with facebook. I also like the Amazon.com connection for a person's buddy. You guys did a great job!!! Good luck and keep up the good work.
