So far I learned in IS696

Thanks alot Dr.Bud for making this course different from previous semesters IS696. Instead of doing a project, in this particular course we leaned something new which is hot now. It was very fun and interesting at the same time. This project adds a big plus point for my resume. We might have done it much better. It never seemed like a 4 month course.

I will try to implement some other project while I am at IBM.

Music store on your PC

Amazon shoppers and Music Lovers happy news for you. Amazon is going to start a new online music store.Amazon.com, the internet retailer, wants to launch an online music store next month to challenge Apple and is working on plans to sell music with reduced protection against copyright infringement.

The internet giant has approached all the music majors in the past fortnight and said that it wanted to sell unprotected MP3 songs in May as it tries to follow Apple in shaking up the music industry.

However, it remains unclear if Amazon will meet its deadline. The internet retailer has been trying, unsuccessfully, over 18 months to break into the market dominated by Apple iTunes, which has a share of about 80 per cent.

This might be a tough competitor for Apple iTunes.

Web 2.0 wave starts to take hold

Whether you use your computer for work or fun, the programs you use generally have one thing in common - they are stored on your PC. Increasingly though, that software is moving online.
The move to put more and more of those familiar programs on to the web has been happening for a while but its latest incarnation has won the name of Web 2.0.What is it - the definition is imprecise at best, but it loosely describes a category of websites that are known for interactivity, collaboration and community.

Get Ready for Web 3.0

We all used Web 2.0 so far. If you are interested further get ready for Web 3.0.
Web 3.0 is called Semantic Web. The Semantic Web is a place where machines can read Web pages much as we humans read them, a place where search engines and software agents can better troll the Net and find what we're looking for.

Re: Google Buys Double Click

Rajesh's post.

In addition to Rajesh post, here are some more points.

Microsoft, the world's biggest software maker, and AT&T, the largest U.S. phone company, urged regulators to review the deal because of antitrust concerns.Google CEO ,Schmidt said some complaints about the DoubleClick deal came from people who lost the bidding competition. The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that Microsoft was involved in the bidding process.

Microsoft has long dominated the computer desktop with its Windows operating system.

But people are increasingly using home pages, bookmarks, search engines and other Web-based programs to determine where they shop, how they communicate and how they play videos, music and movies.

Google's new presentation software will compete against Microsoft's ubiquitous PowerPoint software that's part of its popular Office suite. People use Google's software over the Internet and can log in from any computer through a Web browser, while Microsoft Office must be installed on an individual computer.

I think we might get attracted to Google's presentation software. Let's see.

Yahoo's Next Search: A New CEO?

An 11% decline in profits raises questions about Terry Semel's longevity and overshadows the expansion of the search engine's eBay partnership.

Panama's patina has officially worn off. A disappointing first-quarter earnings report on Apr. 17 largely erased investor enthusiasm about Yahoo!'s new search advertising software and had some analysts openly speculating whether CEO Terry Semel will soon be out the door.

Yahoo said profits fell 11%, to $958 million, on $1.67 billion in sales. Chief Financial Officer Sue Decker attributed the decline to the phaseout of Microsoft's search ad business and rising costs of driving traffic to Yahoo sites.Microsoft launched its own adCenter in late 2005 and gradually began phasing out Yahoo's search marketing ads.

AJAX options

We all used most of the AJAX options and call backs in our projects. Let's have a look at the list of AJAX options and call backs.

Some of the Options are asynchronous, encoding, parameters, content type.

Some of the callbacks are onComplere,onLoaded,onLoading,onFailure.

Callbacks are called at various points in the life-cycle of a request, and always feature the same list of arguments. They are passed to requesters right along with their other options.
