Iteration3Review of Team Extreme By Praneeth

Here is my iteration 3 review of Team Extreme.

Strengths/Comments:
1. Now this is what I call a great mashup of all the resources. Like always I did in the previous iteration, I really liked your website.
2. Discussion Group is a good addition. Adding a user input feature adds a good value to the website.
3. I guess I have written this earlier in my review but I wanna repeat it again. I loved the way you have integrated google calender to show the schedule.

Idea for the future: Well you have included all the services and features you can. I cant think of anything that I can suggest you. Keep the website up and running!!

Iteration3Review of MCubed By Praneeth

Here is my iteration 3 review of MCubed.

Strengths/Comments:
1. A pretty neat mashup. I like indeed search a lot, it is an efficient way of searching for something.
2. I remember you had just 10 jobs to display in the iteration2. Providing more jobs to display is a great addition.
3. See results by City is again a good addition from the last iteration

Idea for the future: If possible you can reduce the number of lines you wrote to describe about the website in the home page. You could write more about your mashup in the "about" page. You also have scope to improve the "See Results By City" feature.

Here is my Iteration 3 review of myfavoriteplaces.

Strengths/Comments:
1. Very Easy Functionality and easy to understand what your website is all about. No intro needed.
2. The layout of the page is very good.
3. Your rss feed looks really cool. Great Job with that!!

Idea for the future: If possible you should ask the first time user to see the website before asking him to login straight away.

Here is my iteration3review of team HacknMash.

This is the link I have used for review.

Strengths/Comments:
1. Your iteration 2 and iteration 3 are like south and north pole. You have made a such a good progress.
2. The mashup is just wonderful and the way you have incoporated the map in little window is cool.
3. The controls are easy and simple to use which is most essential for your target audience.

Idea for the Future: May be you should include the directions( to and from) too in that window if possible in the future that would be of real help to the users.

Intel to launch Linux-powered mobile Internet device

Intel is developing its own take on the mini-tablet, with a new ultra-mobile PC platform to be announced at this week ’s Intel Developer Forum in Beijing. The big surprise? It’s based on Linux.

Technology has no stopping today, its getting better day by day. Intel itseems began breaking away from Microsoft when the new MacBooks, Macbook Pros, and Mac Pros started to come with Intel CPUs. Now they are coming up with their own independent hardware. I am kinda eager to see whether or not Intel will succeed in its foray into this field. Microsoft wont be happy about all this positive linux news and mass-migrations...big companies are now finally starting to tell Microsoft where they can shove their licensing agreements ;) and are giving linux the big thumbs up !! I am not against Microsoft or anything but just love to see where this huge competition will lead them to.

Simplify Ajax development with jQuery

jQuery is a JavaScript library that helps simplify your JavaScript and Asynchronous JavaScript + XML (Ajax) programming.. Unlike similar JavaScript libraries, jQuery has a unique philosophy that allows you to express common complex code easily. This article from IBM developer works will talk about the jQuery philosophy, discover its features and functions, perform some common Ajax tasks, and find out how to extend jQuery with plug-ins.

Just an intro about JQuery:
"Created by John Resig in early 2006, jQuery is a great library for anyone who works with JavaScript code. Whether you're new to the JavaScript language and want a library to address some of the complexities of Document Object Model (DOM) scripting and Ajax or you're an advanced JavaScript guru and tired of the boring repetition involved with DOM scripting and Ajax, jQuery will suit you well."

Create XML with Google Web Toolkit

Most of Ajax applications use XML to transfer information to and from the server, so your application must be able to parse and create XML data. This tutorial shows you how to manipulate and create XML using the Google Web Toolkit(GWT). This toolkit enables you to use Java syntax to create the JavaScript necessary for Ajax user interfaces. It is for the people who are little bit familar with java concepts. This tutorial explains how to use XML with the GWT, a set of Java classes designed to make the creation of Ajax-enabled Web sites easier. You will build a very small, very simple mashup application, combining information from three different source as you learn how to send, receive, manipulate and create XML using the GWT.

This IBM's article deals with the following:

Review what Ajax, XML, and the Document Object Model (DOM) are
Learn what the GWT is
Create a GWT application
Retrieve an XML document using the GWT
Parse an XML document using the GWT
Manipulate a XML Document using the GWT
Send XML data using the GWT

What happens when you click on "Send Error Report"?

Ever wondered what happens when you click on "Send Error Report" whenever a software crashes on your computer? Here is an insight into what people at Microsoft do when someone submits one such report.I found it interesting, it serves no immediate purpose ..but it's interesting to know that some engineers actually look at this info..even if they don't plan to fix it immediately, it would be great for the public to have access to this info. However, I have used Microsoft Vista beta version..Many of the errors I've submitted with Vista's Problems & Solutions have turned up solutions later which makes me think that they actually use this data and resolve the issues.

Its like this you send the error, they resolve it and build a whole new package and sell it to you for 100 dollars more than the regular price :)

Will Desktop applications stay ?

Why do we need huge hard drive or why do people become selective when it comes to operating systems?Be it a MAC, PC or a Unix system.. we can do exactlyy the same things online with the advent of web2.0..Is this the end of desktop applications era ? I mean seriously if we observe closely, here are the online replacements for the most often used desktop applications:

Microsoft word --- you have your google e-docs
Excel --- again google e-docs
Outlook --- Gmail or new Yahoo
Appoitnments or reminders --- google calender
Photoshop --- online photo editor

Some more advantages when we go online are no installation required, no upgrade headaches, access from anywhere as long as you have internet connection, no fear of hard drive crash or loosing your data..So why do we need a desktop application?
