Old AJAX Article

I came across this article written about ajax. It's a fairly old article (over 2 years) but it's interesting to look at the way the technology has been implement over the past two years. The article talks about what AJAX is, and how it works. One part that I liked, was when the article mentions who's using AJAX, all of the companies that they mention are some of the powerhouses now. Amazing to see how this technology develops.

The Importance of Linking

After Bud's talk a couple weeks ago about the importance of linking, and how Google organizes it's search results, I decided to try a little experiment. I've noticed that Joern has a TON of links in all of his posts and I decided to type in mapyourbuddies on to Google just to see the results. I was pretty impressed when these results came back.

They seemed to have almost the entire first page linking to relevant material to there project. I was pretty impressed by this, and now I think I fully understand just how important it is to use links and tags in your blog posts.

AJAX Security Issues

I came across this article about some security loopholes in AJAX. It's a pretty interesting read, they talk about things like not having a validation source, along with more advanced techniques such as manipulating code to potentially harm a users browser, or computer. It seems to me that we still have a few ways to go before we see this new technology start to massively take over the web. It will be interesting to see how this develops.........

RE: Detecting E-Mail Lies

After reading Dean's post about how they are working on a technology that will be able to detect lies in e-mails,I was completely shocked. Even after reading the article that Dean posted, I couldn't fathom how they will create this technology. It seems that it is hard enough to actually detect if a person is lying when you have a normal conversation with them, yet alone an e-mail. This is something I will definitely keep an eye on, if nothing else just to see how it develops.

RE: Blackberry Blackout

I was reading the newspaper the other day, and they were talking about how everyone's Blackberry went out for a period of time. The article I read didn't really go into extremely detail about the severity of the problem, but after reading Jon's Blog about his own personal problems with his Blackberry, I was amazed. I didn't realize that the problem was that severe, and I can only imagine the havoc it must have wreaked during the small time that the phones were down.

Spam

I too have recently been plauged by spam. Over the past week or so I've had roughly 20 e-mails sent to me about all of the "comments" and "trackbacks" that were made on my blog. I really appreciate Bud's Post about how to counteract all of these e-mails. It seems like every time anti spam companies start to get a grasp on this whole issue, the spammers find a new way to flood our inboxes.

RE: Page not found error in MCubed

After reading Chidambaram's post I realized I should probably clarify a few things.

The reason that you will keep getting an error is because those pages don't exist yet. I've been working mainly on getting the layout setup, along with fixing a few minor issues with our mashup, so I haven't had time to complete all those pages. Plus one of those links is what we are going to do for Iteration III. But don't worry by the time that Iteration III is up and running all those links will be working.

Macromedia Fireworks

As I've previously posted, I recently got a copy of Macromedia Studio 8. So far I really like Dreamweaver for designing web pages. It's definitely the best editor I've ever used. I've recently started to dig a little bit into Flash, just starting to get to know how to use it. My question though, is about Fireworks.

This is probably the only application that I haven't really played with yet, I know that it's a graphical editor, but I was wondering if anybody has any prior experience with it. I'm curious what they think of it, and if they know of any good resources to help someone get started with it.

Google Maps Update

I'm not sure if I read that this was posted on the blog earlier, but Google maps just came out with version 2 of their api. Some of the additions they made I really like. For instance they made there map script much smaller, which makes downloading time a lot quicker along with a couple of new controls you can use. If anybody wants to read the upgrade guide that Google wrote for it take a look here.

Major Layout Updates to MCubed

After saying it for the past month or so, I finally got around to designing a layout, and putting some graphical stuff on our project. I used CSS to create all of this, which was a bit of an adventure in itself. I always knew what they were but really didn't know how to use them until I dove in a wrote everything for this page. Now that I've used them though I must say I really like the way they work. They can certainly save you a lot of time in creating multiple pages.
