Yes, it does work in IE, Firefox as well as Safari.

Here is our presentation: Click

Everything is working and ready to go. We fixed the flicker problem as well as the problems we were having in IE. We also changed the coffee and tea pages to email one of us directly when someone clicks submit.

Google Helps Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor is going through some tough time right now because of losing thousands of jobs with the auto industry downsizing and the closing of the Pfizer labs. Not to mention the housing market is at an all time low! The only good news for Ann Arbor's economy is Google.

Check out this story!

Google belives the Ann Arbor is a great place to open an office because of the presence of the University of Michigan which means a well-educated work force. Hopefully, the presence of Google will help Ann Arbor pull through these trouble times because without them the economy looks a lot worse.

So this is a personall Thank You to Google for coming to Ann Arbor, MI to help see us through the trouble times!!

Larry Page

I came across the story of Larry Page. He is one of the founders of Google and a Michigan Alumni. The story is actually really fasinating because of how the idea came about. In IS 449 we have learned many different ways of using other people's work and making it our own. Basically, taking what other people have done and putting our personal twist to it. That is what Page talks about in this articile. He just took something that already was invented and made it better. He is an inventor to some degree, but i would call it a prefecter (if that is a word) He basicaly perfected the search engine and then just went crazy from there.

This give me some hope because it is not just coming up with something from scratch, but just taking other ideas out there and perfecting it. So for me and my online store i just need to come up with a unique way of running compared to all my competition. Because it is all about being different than your competition that will help you to succeed.

M-Live & Craigslist

For anyone out there looking for jobs in the Ann Arbor Area, there are a couple of great places to check. One is the all powerful craigslist, but another great one is on mlive.com.

Check out Craigslist

Check out MLive

I think that craigslist is my favorite place to browse for EVERYTHING. I go on there at least once a day to browse their houses and even their jobs just to see whats out there. But, now that i have started to look on Mlive all the time i have found that they do a great job posting section as well as news section. Since, i live in Ann Arbor i like to see whats going on in Ann Arbor and Mlive does a much better job of reporting the news than Ann Arbor News does (in my opinion).

Why PC/Windows?

Yes, i am a Mac user, but i also use parallels for windows so i can run some of my business programs. The question i have is why people are so attached to PCs or the windows operating systems? There are so many ways to hack into PCs that is makes it extremely difficult to completely protect your computer from hackers. That is why i like Macs and the OS operating system more.

Check out this new story of another Windows security hole.. Here

As a former PC user it was hard to make the switch, but since i have i could not be any happier with my computer experiences!

Blogs that help

In this new age of blog posting it is not only a way for people to complain about things or just post random thoughts. It is also a place where people can come together and talk about real issues such as the VT incident. It is helping the students and families to grieve and just an open place to discuss how they feel. It could actually be looked at as a therapeutic form of release for what happened. This way people can get things off there minds and talk with other people that are going through the same thing.

Well, it happen around 8 p.m.on Tuesday when i could not recieve ANYTHING on my blackberry. I was able to make phone calls but unable to recieve text messages or emails. I was happy that it was mostly during the night but i still think that they should offer some type of discount to every blackberry subscriber because iut messed up a lot of peoples business processes. It also makes me second guess the reliability of the network. If this just happened out of nowhere, what is going to stop it from happening again?

Suggestion for Next Semester IS 449

After working through all the problems in my mini projects and our group project i have a suggestion for next semester of IS 449. Instead of trying to learn everything in class and go out on our own to figure it out on the computer, maybe you should try doing some labs. Even have a few lab assignments to make sure students understand where you want them to be. Also, personally i learn much better with a hands on type of enviroment than i do with trying it on my own.

Check out this website to see what your learning style might be : Learning Style

Firefox does it AGAIN!!

Now Firefox adds content sharing tools to thier portfolio. Here is the story... Firefox

Mozilla's has just recently developed a set of content sharing tools that allows users to swap links and more efficiently track personal content such as blog posts, movies, and photos. They are calling it the "Coop". It is trying to expand upon AOL Instant Messanger, Yahoo Messenger and even Myspace. So instead of people relying on e-mail and instant-messaging tools for their content swapping "The Coop", which is still in its prototype stage, adds the social tools directly to the browser The Firefox add-on not only will let users keep track of what friends are doing online, but also will let them share content and integrate other Web services.

"Users will be able to see friends' faces in a special section, and then click on them to get a list of recently added content, such as favorite YouTube video selections, tagged Web sites, blog posts, updates to their MySpace or Facebook pages, or new photos on sites like Flickr."

This is a GREAT NEW FEATURE for Firefox!! When everything is done and setup this is going to INCREASE the use of Firefox and now not only developers will be using Firefox, EVERYONE will be using it. Hopefully, I.E. and Safari have an answer to this or else they are going to be thrown into the trash bin.

Yahoo's Customizable Search Engine!

Yahoo is still treading water even with Google taking the lead. So now yahoo is, "Quietly testing a search engine which users can customize by adding, removing and rearranging components, suggesting that the company may plan to make it easier for users to tailor search sites to reflect their interests." Check out the story....

I love this idea because you can customize everything. Right now they are calling it, Yahoo Alpha, and it is hosted on an Australian domain, but it is customizable by offering the results page with a list of Web sites on the left hand column and six specialty search result boxes on the right hand column.

The specialty results boxes will also give you a question and answer service, News, and a Flickr photo service. It also offers you a box for displaying search ads from their advertising network.

But, don't think Google does not have anything out there like this. Google's answer to Yahoo Alpha is Co-op. Which is a search enging that allows the users to create a customized search engine. People can use their Co-op-created engine for their personal use, and they also have the option of embedding it on their Web site for others to use.

So that the battle continue between Yahoo and Google

Well, since we all have been using Google Maps for are projects i thought this was a great article for people to read... Check it out

My Maps will allow all of its users to annotate Google maps with text, shapes and othe multimedias content. So instead of us using Google Maps API, "My Maps" is a new feature that will make everything much easier and quicker to create are own custom Map by just pointing and clicking. So instead of using the API we can just streamling the process by putting the mashup tools directly on the map interface. When users click on the "create a new map" link on the new "My Maps" tab, they see the familiar Google map, but with four new buttons in the upper left corner: a hand to position the map, a pushpin to identify a feature, a line for showing directions, and a shape for enclosing free-form areas of the map.

Then after you are finished with the map you can decide if you want to make it public or private. All the maps with get a public URL and if you choose to make it public the maps will even show up in Google Earth and Google Maps search results. This is EXTREMELY useful and takes a lot of work off of are projects or i should say the future projects. Sorry Bud!
