If you read the rest of Tom's blog, you'll see a story of API frustration or concerns about lack of data. My advice is not to be too easily discouraged. If you've got an API, that's 80% of it. You can create the data yourselves. It's okay for things to be just a proof of concept.

The important thing at this stage is to move toward an implementation. You get credit for implementation. It doesn't have to be perfect on the first iteration.
