Getting trackback autodiscovery to work

There's been a lot of discussion about trackbacks. We finally had to resort to manual trackbacks. However, after fixing the tag cloud, I felt so full of motivation that I decided to tackle trackback autodiscovery. Here's the scoop:

  • Log into your blog.

  • Select Settings > New Entry Defaults

  • Uncheck both "Enable External TrackBack Auto-Discovery" and "Enable Internal TrackBack Auto-Discovery"

  • Rebuild your blog

  • Then check both "Enable External TrackBack Auto-Discovery" and "Enable Internal TrackBack Auto-Discovery"

  • Rebuild again

Now, every time you link to a specific blog post, the software will examine the page you are linking to and automatically trackback to it.

I'm not sure if every step I listed is necessary, but that's what worked for me.
