We saw lots of examples of what AJAX can do ..from earlier posts and the articles that were cited in the blogs. ...most of the talk was about "aggregating" what other sites have to offer (eg: google maps) ..and how we can use (reuse ?) the ajax api thats available all over the net. ...most of them are "community" or "social" websites ...
I think, most of the mashup sites does'nt seem to have a good business model yet.....I am skeptical about how they can "make" money out of this ...other than the "ad revenue", for which there is already a fierce competion .....Will Wall Street buy in to this ? With purely user created data, ....Google should still prove buying You tube was a good business decision, let alone the copyright issues they are battling with.
My understanding is.... AJAX is also used in corporate environments ..with completely "home grown" serverside components ...!!! The "value" is derived from behind-the-screen interaction between the browser and the server side component (a servlet for example)...thereby improving the "user experience" , reducing the internal network traffic etc.
In this context, I can see how AJAX can be used as one of the many "cosmetic tool" that real businesses use, but in itself cannot be very useful....Because ajax deals only with client side stuff and without any server side components, its hardly useful to any serious business.....atleast I am not convinced yet.....
