Davida's Blog Lori typed a blog entry about fixing some errors and we are kind of lost about our error page because the api isn't working.

I just got really lucky and the api went down shortly after I typed my last blog.  It stayed down for about an hour.  In that time, I got the error handling all set up AND TESTED! and It works now, yay!

I made some more additions into the powerpoint as well, I will send it to u guys tomorrow afternoon, I still have a few more additions to do in the morning.

Davida's Blog But anyways, I have summarized the reviews into three categories: Good reviews, Bad reviews, and Suggestions.

Thanks for doing the summary of reviews Davida!  Looking over them, it looks like most people were concerned with the format and functionality of the site.  Since the format has been changed and is much more eye-catching, that leave functionality.  I will work on the error page some more as Prof. Gibson suggested, I will try structuring my if statement around the object instead of the status.  I didn't even think to do that orginally, so that was a great suggestion.

Another suggestion was to let someone know if something was spelled wrong.  I'm not exactly sure how that could be accomplished other than sending the user to an error page for a city, state combo that returns no results.

Nathaniel's Blog Then I also made a version 10 which is also in the file the only change that I made was add two drop down calendars for the check in and check out dates

Great job with the calendar updates Nathan.  I have added the code to the site.  I did make a couple minor adjustments to the calendarpopup file though.  It didnt seem to take into consideration that if the box is on the other side of the page, the calendar popup went off it as well due to its anchor points.  I just changed it so that it went over 200 to the right (that way it didnt disapear off the page).  The reason I did this was because I reformated where the search was on the page.  It is now on the left hand side instead of the right.

One comment I will quote on was "it looks like it didn't have a lot of time put into it."  I have worked extremely hard on this site putting in at least ten hours a week working on it since the beginning of the semester, somtimes more.  I feel like I have made significant progress since Iteration One and am proud of my acomplishments.  This is the very fist time that I have ever created a mashup, or a php file and I personally feel that it was a valiant attempt for a first-timer.  To receive comments such as, "They are basically telling you that their site sucks and to go elsewhere.  It just looks horrible all together, I wouldnt have spent more than two seconds here if I didnt have to, it was a complete waste of time." is extremely hurtful.

Professor Gibson's intentions were honorable with administration of this extra credit assignment.  I was hoping to have suggestions that I could somehow use to enhance the site.  However, these comments did not accomplish my expectations.

Nathaniel's Blog There are a few problems with version 9 when I click the Hotel link a 404 not found error page comes up.

I mentioned in class that I currently have the hotel links disabled, which would be why you are getting that error.  It is not a problem with the code. The page you are getting directed to is http://hi which does not exist.  The links are broken into many pieces including single and double quotes and are easy to accidently screw up so I did not have it completely finished last class.  I am still working on this.

Nathaniel's Blog Ok on the our website you will not get any results if you put the same date both places.

There is no reason for the kayak API to support a one day search.  I do not know of many hotels that you wouldn't spend the night in.  Therefore the checkout date would be the next day.  If you feel that error handling is neccesary for this, then it would be great if you could incorporate that into our code.

Learning Remix I have an idea about what we can do with the side bar data that just happens to long from version 8 here is an example.

Scroll bars on the side is a great idea for the sidebar.  However, in that example they are using innerHTML which is what we are trying to stray away from.  I wonder if this can be implemented in some sort of way with a DOM approach.

Step 2: Solving the problem!!!!!!!!!!!  Ok so I figured it out mostly.  The problem was that adding nested table structures to tables that exist in the original html document does not seem to work in IE.  Probably, but I havent figured this out yet, it is really that doing this to the same table that the google map exists in, is the real problem.  I havent quite figured that part out yet.

At the moment, I have been able to add the sidebar (well maybe make that a bottom bar!) below the map.  I did this by directly adding the sidebar table via DOM to the body of the document.  Since I added it to the body of the document, it is now in its own table below the map.  My best idea to put this next to the map will be to completely build the map and sidebar tables via DOM.  I'm not sure if this will work yet, but it is the next step I woul like to try.

I am just so happy right now that I was able to get the sidebar to show up along with the map in both IE and Firefox!!!!  I'm still jumping up and down at the moment.  The details can still be worked out as to make this sidebar appear in the correct place.

One thing I wanted to point out was that I have temporarily disabled clicking on the links on the sidebar.  The single and double quotes were driving me bonkers when i changed this to DOM since it included embeded javascript previously.  I am still working on this part.

I commented out the function addSidebar.  When I did this, the map worked properly in both IE and Firefox.  So then I thought I was making some progress.  Then, instead of adding the sidebarDiv, which contains the sidebar tables, I added a single text node.  This node had one word in it. 

Executing this under both Firefox and IE had the same expected result of the word showing up just right of the map.  There is something going on when I try to add data to the sidebar <td>.  Obviously if the <td> contains only a word, everything works fine.  However, if the <td> contains more tables, or table information, something goes wrong.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
