Agile vs. Waterfall

Waterfall development attempts to divide the work of software development into phases, often with heavy paper deliverables, difficult integration efforts, and a desire to “lock down” or “freeze” requirements early in the schedule. It is not uncommon to see cycles of a year or more before ideas can be turned into working software. In contrast, agile development practices attempt to dramatically increase the throughput of business value, maximizing client ROI through the rapid release of usable functionality while providing the ability to adapt to changing requirements.

See the comparisons here...

Learningremix.net Blog Synthesis

Hi All,
Here is a synthesis of learningremix.net blog:
Why Blog ?
 - Web Log (blog) buzz  word
 - Blogs are easy and fast web publishing tool
 - Blogs are an easy & effective way for teams to collaborate or manage their projects, even across geographically dispersed teams.
 - Use blogs as a tool for executive leadership to share news to entire teams.
 - Blog content integrates with existing content management systems or portal applications seamlessly.
 - Blogs provide a permanent record of all communications, freeing the information that's trapped in email today.
We as novice to this blog world at the beginning of this term, started slowly but geared up rapidly to this blogging network. Now at the end of the course, i feel i am missing something if i don't take a peek into the blog posts every now and then whenever i get a chance !
One undergraduate team IS-449 and one graduate team IS-696 used the learningremix.net blog network very effectively through out the fall 2006 term.
Technorati helped us with what's happening on the World Live Web. With Sitemeter anywhere in the world could see and contribute to the topics of discussion. Adding widgets was helpful and fun.

Few project groups used the blogs for discussing about their project status, concerns, notes summary, reviews, feedback, interactions, cross team sharing, group communications, track project progress. Groups used it as a professional, integrated network for peer networking and reviews.
total # of bloggers = 18
total # of posts = 1041 (as of 13th Dec 12:00 am)
Various interesting topics ranging from Ajax, Web 2.0, HTML, XML, DOM, JavaScript to sharing info about graduation, thanksgiving were all posted. I find it easier to use blogs compared to keeping track of emails for project discussions.
The idea of using threaded comments to blog posts to promote class interaction is very useful and open interactions help to keep tab of the project happenings.

I hope all of you enjoy blogging the same way i do !!

eventmaps testing search results display

For a search which yields more than 25 results, only first 25 results are displayed in the events list and for the events occuring in the same location the markers are overlapping so not all markers are visible on the map.

This is because we parse only 25 items in our page index. We need to display all the remaining search items on separate pages and provide page transitions to it.

Ex: For the search criteria -Sports, Novi, 30 miles, Future - yields 163 items but only 25 items are listed in the events list and only 7 markers appear on the map. We need to make provision to view the remaining search items.
